I love the summer season! I know the official start of summer isn’t until June 20th, but for us the beginning of summer is Memorial Day weekend! This year we’re planning a big Memorial Day bbq party, so I put together a collection of Memorial Day BBQ party ideas. We just built a new deck on the back of our house last fall, and we’re just finishing it up this spring. I think it might be fun to break in our new deck with a Memorial Day barbeque for a few of our friends and family. I found some fabulous Memorial Day decorations last weekend at Family Dollar to add a touch of fun and color to our Memorial Day party.
These fun patriotic red white and blue bows are the perfect touch for summer from Memorial Day through the 4th of July! They’re very festive and bright. Perfect for the outside of our deck railing! The best part is they’re only $2 each!
I also picked up some red roses, and some white and blue flowers, along with some large red plastic cups and some red and blue tissue paper. I thought I might be able to make a couple inexpensive floral centerpieces for our party.
I added a few stones to the bottom of the cups, to help stabilize the cups and add weight for a windy day. Then I added a piece of red and blue tissue paper to each cup.
Then I added the flowers. I took a floral decorating class a couple years ago, and the instructor told us to add everything in 3s and to try to make triangles with the different flowers. I still try to use those tips as the basics for all of my flower decorations. It doesn’t always work out as I plan, but it’s still a great tip!
While I was at Family Dollar I also picked up a patriotic tablecloth, and some great red and blue serving bowls for our Memorial Day bbq. Oh, and some fun snacks to put in them!
The salad bowl is my favorite, and these serving utensils are the perfect finishing touch! I added some fresh greens, sliced strawberries, blueberries and almond slices to make a festive Memorial Day salad.
We set everything up the other night and had our own little pre-Memorial Day party to take it for a test run!
See those little candles in front of the deck? They’re citronella candles. Our local Family Dollar had those and some larger candles. They also had solar lights and other outdoor lighting options perfect for Memorial Day parties after the sun goes down.
Now I can’t wait until Memorial Day weekend so we can have our Memorial Day party with our friends and family!
