Super Cute Paw Print Cake or Cupcake Idea

by Linette

Paw print cakeMy niece had her 6th birthday party this weekend. My sister planned a dog themed birthday party for her.

She made a really cute paw print birthday cake, and paw print cupcakes to match the colors in the dog theme party supplies. She used a Wilton #12 tip to make dots on the paws for both the cake and the paw print cupcakes, then flattened the icing to look like paw prints. She used the same tip to edge the bottom of the cake.

This paw print cake and these paw print cupcakes would also be really cute for a cat themed, Webkinz, Pawparazzi pets, or bear themed birthday party. The paw print cake is not a complicated cake to make. The paw print cupcakes are even simpler.

Dog themed birthday party

The paw print cupcakes were iced like normal, then she used the same Wilton #12 tip to make the circles for the “prints”. Just make circles with the tip and squish them flat. You could do this cake in any color combination you want to go with your party supplies, or a combination of your child’s favorite colors. Both the paw print cake and paw print cupcakes are super easy to make and super cute!

We used that same tableware for Hannah’s party back in November! 🙂 I love this cake though – we didn’t have a choice for hers since her party was at a play place that didn’t allow us to bring our own, but with two doggie-loving kids, I’m going to have to remember this!

This reminds me of blues clues!!

I luv the cupcakes setting..I’m considering having cupcakes on a 2-tier cake cardboard “platform” instead of having a whole cake and cutting it after that.

I can distribute the cupcakes to each child after blowing the candles! This way, even if the child decide to have it later..it wouldn’t be a mess to pack into ziplocks.

I love it. I’ll have to keep this in mind for a future party. I think it’s so much fun to create general themes. It takes a bit of planning, but the originality makes for a memorable occasion.

I was planning on making this exact cake for my bf’s daughter– how did she go about making the smaller cakes for the paw? Did she get a small cake pan or cut them out? Looks pretty simple and cute

Michelle~ Yes the paw prints are a circle of frosting, then you just pat it down after it dries a bit.

Kristen~ The smaller cakes are a smaller cake pan, I think it was the Wilton Mini Ball pan, if I remember right, lol. That pan would definitely work.

Thanks for stopping by!
