The Rubik’s Cube was all the rage in the 80’s, but it’s still a popular toy with kids today. They’ve updated it a bit, with fancier models like the Technosource Rubik’s TouchCube, but basically it’s still that same brain challenging puzzle it always has been.

Today I have a cake for the old 80’s Rubiks Cube fan to the new younger fans. This would be a fun cake idea for a birthday, or anniversary party.

I didn’t make this Rubik’s Cube cake, I just snapped a quick photo of it. Whoever made it gave it four rows across, instead of 3, but it’s only 3 tall. You could definitely correct that by making the cake smaller (or make it a Rubik’s 4×4 by making it another layer tall).

The person that made this cake used color fondant for the squares, and black buttercream to cover the corners and area between the squares.You could use a square cake pan to make the layers, each layer of the cube would be two layers of cake.

You would want to divide each side into 3rds, then measure out your squares and edges so the whole cake is uniform.

I can’t give you all the details on this Rubik’s Cube cake, since unfortunately I wasn’t the baker, but I do think it’s a cool idea for a cake.

If you want to make it the theme for your party, just add solid color plates streamers and balloons to match the colors on the cube.
