S’mores have always been a campfire favorite at our house! Sometimes we don’t have all the correct ingredients though, so we have to improvise a little! I figure as long as you have some marshmallow, chocolate, and a cookie or graham cracker to fold it into, it’s all good, right?
During the summer we try to have a campfire every weekend, and when we head to the lake we can have a campfire every night! Many times we have extra kids along for the ride, so it’s like a campfire party! Here are just a few campfire s’mores ideas and variations we’ve tried through the years.
- Try a different candy bar for your chocolate. It doesn’t have to be a straight milk chocolate bar, add something with a little caramel, or stuff a Hershey’s Kiss into the center of the marshmallow and let it melt from the heat before making your s’more sandwich. You could also try a mini Snickers, or a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. Chocolate or peanut butter chips anyone? Yum!
- For the graham cracker, try chocolate graham crackers, an Oreo or a shortbread cookie. One of my favorite variations is to use Keebler Fudge Stripe cookies, or Fudge Grahams instead of graham crackers. Pretzel squares are also yummy! They give you that sweet and salty flavor!
- I love all the flavored marshmallows out there these days. We’ve tried strawberry and chocolate for our s’mores. You can also substitute Marshmallow fluff if you’re making your s’mores indoors.
We’ve also made s’mores pies with our campfire pie irons, bread, chocolate and marshmallows!
You can see how we made them here: S’mores Campfire Pies.
How do you make your s’mores over the campfire? Do you have any fun variations to share?
