I don’t know about your house, but at our house Sunday evenings at our house during football season means game time food! That usually means pizza night! Of course we had to watch the playoff games this last weekend, and since we’re on a new budget for the new year, instead of ordering out I grabbed a couple DiGiorno Pizzas at Walmart while we were out shopping on Saturday. The best part was Digiorno Pizza is on rollback right now at Walmart for $4.50! That definitely beats delivery prices!
My son picked the 3 Meat Pizza and I also grabbed a 4 Cheese Thin Crust Pizza. While we were there, I also picked up 2 pints of chocolate ice cream, so I could make an ice cream football cake to go along with our football game time food feast.
I have a football cake mold I bought a few years ago. It’s really come in handy! I’ve made football cakes, and football bread, now I had plans for a football ice cream cake. When we got home from the grocery I scooped the ice cream out of the containers and into the football mold while it was a little melty from the trip. I pressed it into the mold with the back of a large serving spoon. I think a spatula would work really well too.
I placed the whole thing in the freezer to refreeze the ice cream. Then right before the football games started I got the ice cream football out of the freezer and dipped the bottom of the pan into warm water for just a couple seconds and flipped it over onto a cake board. Then I put it back into the freezer one more time for about 10 minutes just for good measure! I put some green icing around the base with a Wilton 1M tip and a pastry bag to hide the rough edges, and used a small round piping tip to add strings to the top with white icing. Done! And so easy!
Right before game time I baked up the pizzas. My son wanted the Three Meat Pizza so I popped it in the oven first. It was finished just in time for some football!
Then I made the Four Cheese Thin Crust Pizza and served it up with some extra pizza sauce for dipping. Here’s the recipe I used for the easy pizza dipping sauce:
Pizza Dipping Sauce
Ingredients:
16 ounce can tomato sauce
1 teaspoon oregano
1 teaspoon basil
1 clove crushed garlic
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese
Directions:
Combine the tomato sauce and the spices and let it simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes in a sauce pan on low.
Let the mixture cool, then add the Parmesan cheese and you’re ready for dipping!
My game time food choices were big hit!
