We love avocados at our house, more specifically we love Mexican avocados, the popular Hass variety that’s why I was super excited to come up with a fun Halloween party dip recipe featuring avocados. We eat avocados year round at our house, but I decided the green color was perfect to make some delicious spooky edible ghouls! Here’s one of them!
These spooky ghouls are actually a yummy party dip! Here’s how I made them:
Spookamole Spooky Ghouls Recipe
Ingredients:
- 2 Hass avocados
- 2-3 chiles (hot or mild to your taste)
- 1 small onion, or 1/2 medium onion
- 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro leaves
- 3 cloves of garlic chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- the juice of 1 lime
- 1 plum tomato (like Roma)
- Corn chips
For the Ghoul’s Faces:
- Broccoli sprouts
- Baby carrots
- Olives
- Cilantro leaves
- Slivered almonds
- Sunflower seeds
- cherry tomatoes
- regular tomato slice
- Whatever else you or your kids can come up with to make an edible ghoulish face!
Directions:
1. Rough chop the tomato, garlic, cilantro, onion, and chiles then throw them in a food processor. Add the lime juice and salt.
2.Pulse the processor a couple times to chop everything up.
3. Slice the avocados in half length wise (see photo below), then scoop out the yummy center and add it to the food processor.
Don’t throw the shells away! They’re going to be the ghoul’s heads and hold your dip.
4. Pulse the food processor again until you have ghoulish green dip.
5. Scoop the dip into the avocado halves.
6. Let your kids help you make your favorite ghoulish faces. The one at the top of this post had broccoli sprouts for hair, cherry tomatoes cut in half for eyes, and a tomato slice and almond slivers for a mouth. The Spookamole ghoul below has black olive slices for eyes, and sunflower seeds for teeth.
You can arrange your Spookamole Spooky Ghouls on a platter with some corn chips, and serve them up for your Halloween party. I used blue chips to fit with the darker Halloween theme, but yellow or white corn chips would work fine too.

I wrote this review while participating in a Spookamole blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Avocados from Mexico and received avocado items to facilitate my review and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.
