There’s something about me you might not know. I looooove to read! I really like to read young adult books, even though I’m no longer a young adult, hah! I think it all started with Harry Potter, then I got hooked on the Twilight series (Although the last book in that series is not for youngsters at all!), and I’ve been totally hooked since. My son hasn’t helped my addiction he got me started several other young adult series. I’ve had several opportunities to review young adult novels, and I wasn’t sure how they’d fit in here. I decided most are appropriate for teens and tweens, so as long as I think they’re appropriate I’ll review them here, if not they’ll go on my other blog, The Home and Garden Cafe.
The first book I have up is The Earth Painter by Melissa Turner Lee. I have to say I really enjoyed this book! I wasn’t sure what to expect when I started reading it, but it pulled me in and kept me reading. I couldn’t put it down! I stayed up until 2AM one night reading.
The Earth Painter is a wonderful story about a teenage girl who’s feeling a little awkward after her family is forced to move when her father loses his job. Holly is just starting a new school, and is mistakenly enrolled in drama class where she notices Theo sitting on the corner of the stage. No one else notices him until Holly points him out.
Theo is the Earth Painter, responsible for painting everything on the earth, except the water and people. People were created by The Creator and water was created by another painter named Fritz who doesn’t like humans. Theo’s been for the most part invisible for most of his long life.
Theo helps Holly discover herself and how wonderful she truly is. I really enjoyed how the book plays out, and the ending. I’m looking forward to the next installment of the Painter series coming out in January of 2012, it’s on my buy list! I look forward to getting back into the lives of Holly and Theo.
