Spring Break For The Family~ Grand Bahia Principe~ Akumal Mexico

by Linette

We’ve made a couple all inclusive trips to the Cancun Mexico area in the last year, but I haven’t shared our experiences here yet! Last fall we went to the Grand Bahia Principe in Akumal, Mexico. It was a very family friendly all inclusive resort, I think it would be a great Spring Break destination!

The beaches were gorgeous! I took plenty of photos, here are just a couple of my favorites.

Here’s another beach photo with someone para-sailing.

There were plenty of rocks and reefs, so it was a great place for snorkeling. You can see some  kids snorkeling in the photo. I did plenty of snorkeling myself, so did my son. We took along an underwater camera and got some great under water photos. I’ll be back to share those! The water was clear, blue and just plain beautiful!

Here’s a little hermit crab my niece found about an hour after we got there. We took his photo, then put him back where we found him. He was too cute!

Grand Bahia Principe was a large resort! We were there for 5 days, and it took us all 5 days to cover everything. The first night we went to Tulum and The Hacienda.

It was the cloudiest night we were there, but perfect for exploring since we didn’t hang out on the beach as long. The Tulum Lodge had a large round pillar up through the center. Here’s what it looked like from the inside.

Here’s what it looks like from the outside.

And here’s what it looked like from up the beach the next day. This was my favorite lodge because it had so much character!

While we were at that end of the resort we also checked out the shops and flea market at The Hacienda.

There were several venders with some really unique items.

They were just setting up for the night when we came through, and there was a little rainstorm, so there weren’t many people there yet. After we browsed a while we went on into The Hacienda and checked out the shops there too.

There was plenty for the kids to do too! They had a daily dolphin show.

Plenty of snorkeling on the beach, and sand castle building! A couple kids built this mermaid with their grandpa right next to us one day on the beach. They did a great job!

There were also several swimming pools for the kids to swim in. This was just one of several pools! This one even had a swim up bar for the grownups!

Every day there was a different towel animal on our bed! My son got a kick out of the bunny.

But he wasn’t so impressed with the doll. I thought she was cute though!

Most meals we just grabbed a quick bite at one of the buffet restaurants. Our favorite waiter was Omar, so we usually went to the same buffet and tried to get seated in his section. He was one of the best waiters we’ve had anywhere!

We did eat at a couple of the restaurants. Our favorite was the seafood restaurant~ El Pescador. I loved their table service, and their food!

Their little desserts were the best!

We booked our vacation through Apple Vacations. They have an on site representative to help you with any problems you might have. The can also book excursions for you. I didn’t go on any excursions, but my brother in law and his family did and they said it was awesome! They went snorkeling in an under water cave.

Our representative was Ivan.

We felt like he was part of the family! We even included him in the family photo when it was time to go.

I would definitely recommend The Grand Bahia Principe in Akumal Mexico to anyone! We’re planning to go back again sometime soon! It’s a great family friendly destination.

WOW. I have never taken a vacation like this but sure would love to…we keep talking about it but then we always opt for the Jersey Shore. I know that sounds crazy, but it’s only 100 miles from here and it’s like our second home. I’m not sure we’d ever choose to spend our vacation money elsewhere. I think we’d have to win a vacation to go somewhere else. LOL.

Looks like a great place! I’ve only been to Mexico once and that was Tijuana so I don’t think that even counts.

I am wondering what money is preferred at the markets???? Is there snorkelling gear available at the resort for the size of a 7 year old?
