DIY Flower Birthday Party Decorations With Elmer’s Painters #ExpressYourself

by Linette

I love this time of year when all the flowers are starting to bloom! I decided to come up with some DIY flower party decorations, that would be easy to recreate, with some bright spring colors to catch party goers eyes. With the help of Elmer’s Painters here’s what I came up with!

First up I headed out to Walmart to put together the supplies I’d need for my project. I’ve bought Elmer’s Painters before, but I couldn’t remember where I found them the last time. I made a guess and headed to the craft section, then to the paint supplies, and there they were!

I knew I wanted to use the markers to create pops of color with flowers on a birthday banner, some DIY birthday hats, and maybe some treat cups. I had ideas swirling in my head, but I wanted to see what colors were available before I made my decision. While I was there I also grabbed a roll of that birthday banner paper in the lower left hand corner.

I looked at all the different color combinations available, and decided on the Neon Painters because they had bright colors to make my spring party project pop! I was also excited to learn, single Painters are coming to Walmart NOW and they are a great new everyday low price of $1.97. The single Painters also have and expanded selection of colors and tip sizes. I didn’t see them at the Walmart I was at, but you can be bet I’m going to be checking the other Walmart stores in our area when I’m out and about! I have a list of projects I’d like to make with these markers!

I picked up a few more supplies and headed for home. Here’s the final results:

Here’s how I made them!

DIY Flower Birthday Party Decorations:

Materials:

  • Elmer’s Painters Markers ~ Neon
  • White treat cups (In the birthday party or cake decorating aisle)
  • White banner paper
  • White 8 12 x 11 card stock (one piece for each party hat)
  • Elastic thread (in the sewing notions aisle)
  • Tape

How to make the DIY flower treat cups:

These were super simple to make, and I think they turned out really cute! I just used the yellow and pink Painters to make the flowers.

Make random yellow dots around the treat cups, not to close together (about 1 inch apart), alternate where they are on the cup from top to bottom. For each dot put 5 pink dots around the outside for your flower petals and you’re done!.

The Painters Markers are perfect for this! They make perfect round dots if you put some pressure on them to start and let them get inked up before you start.

Here are the butterfly treat cups.

I made them by putting an orange stripe (about 1/2 inch long), then adding 2 small orange dots at the top for antennae, and two blue, and two green dots for the butterfly’s wings. Super simple! Here are the finished treat cups all together.

To make the party hats, I used an old party hat we had laying around for the pattern, and laid it out on a piece of white card stock.

I traced around the hat. I made butterflies and flowers on the hat randomly the same way I made them on the treat cups above.

then I cut the hats out. I cut a slit in one side to insert the tab, then taped the seam together. I used a piece of elastic thread for a chin strap. You can either tie the strap on, or tape it with a piece of tape to hold it in place.

I also used the markers to make a Happy Birthday banner. I mixed in the butterflies and flowers, and used the Painters Markers to write Happy Birthday on the white banner paper.

It all turned out very festive! Now I’m ready for my nieces birthday party in a couple weeks!

I think it will be perfect paired with some brightly colored birthday plates and cups! This would also be really cool for a Mother’s Day celebration!
