I’m excited to share, today Nike’s President & CEO will join First Lady Michelle Obama in announcing a national commitment to bringing physical activity back to our nation’s schools. The campaign is called Designed To Move and the purpose is to ensure the health and longevity of America’s kids. It’s all about raising awareness around the lack of physical activity among our nation’s children.
Last spring I had the opportunity to visit the Nike Campus with my son and participate in the Nike Young Athlete’s Innovations Summit. We learned first hand how Nike is working with kids and student athletes like my son to help them improve their physical fitness. We also learned more about the importance of physical fitness. It was an amazing opportunity, and learning experience for both of us!
To kick off the campaign Designed To Move created a touching video asking kids what they would do if they had 5 extra years to live.
For the first time in history our life expectancy is going down instead of up. Kids today are not expected to live as many years as their parents. That’s an alarming trend! Much of that is due to the lack of physical activity kids receive these days. I hope this campaign helps to raise awareness and get kids up and moving (as well as adults).
